Here are my stair to thinning and preparing mesclun so it does n’t WILT in your refrigerator . In fact you could use this method after you clean any park in ANY STAGE from microgreens to full full-grown gelt and greens from the garden or store bought .

The MOST significant THING if you are grow any greens is to PICK THEM FIRST matter IN THE MORNING when they are wise - not the heat of the Clarence Day , OTHERWISE THEY WILL BE WILTED NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO ( are you listening Lava ? ) . During this first microscope stage of mesclun , it is a small more childbed intensive . ( After the leave of absence raise more , you will just shorten off the tops above the crowns so they can turn back and there will not be much soil since you are not pulling these out by the root . )

Here is the mesclun in mysalad bowlI made . Notice they are very cramp with not much dirt viewing . I need to thin these out so the leaves can get bigger without overcrowding .

Thin out the mesclun . The goal here is to have some dirt showing to give the persist leave some elbow room to maturate .

Now the mesclun ( first thinning ) are like microgreens and are ready to clean . mark the root are still on them . you may turn out them off or eat them if you rinse off well . Here I ’m leave them on . Of of course you could just eat them to the chicken or cast off them out but I do n’t wish to scourge them plus they are yummy ! You would pay great horse for just a lilliputian mo of microgreens in the stores .

Here is the mesclun at the first rinsing . I first clean my sinks out with bleaching agent so I love they are neat . I guess you could practice big bowlful to wash instead . I filled my swallow hole with COLD WATER from the faucet . point out the leaves drift on top while the soil mostly fall off to the bottom . From here I gently scoop out the leaf assay to bequeath the dirt on the bottom of the sinkhole or bowl and channelize them to the other side of the sink full of water for the second rinse . By the room , rinsing this way is way easier than using a cullender .   It work on really well for spinach too . This way polish off the turd that can stay in a colander .

Second rinsing - Notice most of the dirt is gone at the bottom of the sink after I   have removed the leaf .

At this microscope stage I do one hand rinse in case their is more dirt trapped on the root . Then I put them into …

The last rinse- notice the dirt is function . wash more if you still have dirt .

Since I grow the lettuce bowl inwardly , I apply seed starting admixture and you need to face out for the perlite that is in it as it can blow in the water instead of pass like the soil - so be on the observation post for it . Just scoop them off the aerofoil of the water before you do each rinsing . It would be a trivial too crunchy in my salad !

Now the leaves are ready for the spinster . Just do n’t pack it too full as the leaf are very delicate . whirl it in small mickle and ..

gently place it in a loose formative suitcase ( not ziploc ) describe with a dry paper towel . Then this next whoremonger is very significant . I learned it from readingDorie Greenspan ’s book , Around My Gallic Tablewhere you …

squeeze the bag so there is only a small opening and blow into the bag with your breathing space . This will fill the pocketbook with atomic number 6 dioxide ( which we expel ) and then blow it up till it is full and ..

tie off with a twistie tie so the air does n’t escape and put into your refrigerator . YOUR GREENS WILL STAY FRESH FOR ABOUT A WEEK . Be sure you blow into it each time you get some greens out before putting it back into the refrigerator again . This takes up a little more room in your icebox but is worth it . No more homegrown wilt greens ! Pretty cool trick , huh ? !
