It still has the signature raillery , private-enterprise nature , and shocking reveals — but with an added impertinence , good manners of new host Page Turner . As the designer ofFlip or Flop NashvilleandFix My Flip , she ’s no stranger to HGTV or challengingrenovation job .
“ I conceive people are still asking the same head , you know : What should we do when you ’re be in a family that does n’t work for you ? ” says veteran legion David Visentin . “ Should you repair , or should you leave ? I mean that Page brings a new spiciness to it , that ’s for sure . She impart her own energy . She brings a newness to it , a niggling morsel of uncovering , because the two of us do n’t really know each other . ”
If you ’ve seen the show , you have intercourse Visentin has been the one who tries to get homeowners to “ number it ” since 2008 . Facing off against designer Hilary Farr , who pass up to rejoin the cast for the show ’s new earned run average , Turner was able to contemplate up on all his moves , which she believe gave her a scrap of an edge .
“ I feel like I know David , because I ’ve watch the show , ” she says . “ I ’m like , ‘ I jazz how he ’s gon na respond . ’ So I get to pull some surprisal rabbit out of my chapeau . ”
The Reality of ‘Love It or List It’
If you add up to see the features of the potential house and thestunning transformationof the original home , you definitely stick to watch over the competition unfold . And you never know with reality TV how much of that is for show — but onLove It or List It , it ’s evident that the real estate rivalry is for real ( albeit friendly ) .
“ He ’s so nerveless — he ’s like this in real life too , ” Turner says of her co - legion . “ So this time of year is very fun , interesting , and challenging . And I say it ’s hot ; [ Visentin ] said it ’s a muss . So it ’s a hot mess . ”
Here ’s a smell behind the scene of the new season ofLove It or List It , which features eight hour - long episodes .
Q: If you’re trying to get a homeowner on your side, what’s your ultimate secret weapon for swaying them?
David Visentin : Well , having done real estate passably much my whole life sentence — and my father was a factor , so I ’ve worked with him forever — I have jolly full negotiating skills , and I have a good ability to get multitude on the same varlet and to get them to understand what their best options are in a overconfident elbow room . And I think that ’s kind of my undercover power . I ’ve been judge to work on it with [ Turner ] , but it ’s not make for . But I ’m gon na get there .
Page Turner : I bed why it ’s not work , because you act to get them on the samePage . And I ’m like , ‘ Oh , he just made my business so easy . ’ For me , my creative genius is that I can take a space and redesign it to make it work without have to add straight footage . Now , I did n’t know how good I was until I get on this show , because we ca n’t add too much square footage to these houses this time of year , for whatever the reason is : Sometimes it ’s [ because of ] permits , sometimes I have to drop a floor , whatever it is — but I ’m able just to sit down and take a breath and say , ‘ Okay , this is our only pick in this blank . So let ’s kind of play this maze game and move some thing around to make it act upon andbring use , ’ and then beautiful bring out this season — I mean , I ’m really able to dig down in my design base on the show .
Q: So it’s kind of a psychological thing, would you say?
DV : It ’s finding out what they do n’t even know in terms of what they actually need . They come up with a compliments tilt for us in the beginning , and then that becomes amust - have list , and you kind of have to get them there , otherwise you ’re going to show them stuff that either they ca n’t afford or they do n’t take . And in the terminal , they ’re going to say , ‘ Yeah , you get it on what , we do n’t really require that . ’ So we have to condense it to something that makes sense : financially , emotionally , and functionally .
platinum : And it ’s the same on the design side ; they give me their wishing list as well , and I ’m just shaking my head . So I let them have play with it , and then it starts shrinking , but I ’m able-bodied to say , ‘ Okay , well , maybe not this , but let ’s take care at this . ’
And rent ’s just start massaging this out carefully , because so many emotions are involve . We become therapists , and we find this glad place , and then at this big , beautiful reveal , I give them — which even David ’s outrage at all the time , correct ? Not at my ability , but sometimes I get really box in , like , I ca n’t tot up square footage , I ca n’t bring a bathroom . What am I going to do ? And then [ the homeowners ] get to make their decision .
Q: Are you usually surprised at what the homeowners choose?
DV : We both get hold out at the same clock time , and we both have no idea what they ’re going to resolve . So it ’s a surprise for both of us . Sometimes it ’s very shocking . Sometimes I ’m very surprised . But then I find out that people will often appease for things that they say they call for , but maybe they do n’t , right ?
I ’ve shown house to people that have three kids , and they ’re in a three - bedroom house , and they cease up ride out in those theatre , as opposed to go for a four - sleeping room home . And you would imagine , logically , you should go with a four - bedroom house . But it does n’t always work out that way .
PT : Yeah , because the design is undeniable . So they want to stay in the home plate they ’ve been in , and I ’ve turned a house into a menage , so why leave now ?
Q: What was the most competitive moment from this season?
PT : We walked in a house , and David calls it the rolling wave coaster house , because it had two steps up to get from the living way , you get three footstep to get to the dining room , four footstep to get to the kitchen , four steps to get to the den .
DV : In the lav , there were steps to get to the shower bath . It was the worstfloor planI’d ever , ever learn .
PT : This was just one flooring . So David was like , ‘ I start this . ’
DV:‘They should result now , just move on without impart it away . ’
PT : I’ll say this : When he walked into the reveal , he was appalled , because I may or may not have drop the trading floor and leveled it out . He said , ‘ You ca n’t do it . ’ I said , ‘ Okay , I ca n’t . You ’re correct . We ’ll see . ’
