Yet another reason togive up on the former Land of the Free :
“ A few weeks ago , I noticed a woman standing in my neighbour ’s K doing something I thought was pretty d — foreign : she was measuring steel of grass with a magnetic tape measure .
Then I noticed the city truck parked on the street .
When I substantiate who she was and what she was doing , my next thoughts were :
“ Are there not actual problems in this city that need attention ? There are people who drive around and evaluate grass for a sustenance ? And these employees are paid with taxpayer money … to extort taxpayers ? ”
It is n’t like there are n’t real problems in this city . Like most region in the US , there are thing like potholes , traffic light outages , law-breaking , and other random issues that , to a logical thinker , seem more pressing than the height of occupier ’ lawn .
Since when did having tall grass become a crime?
In many share of the United States , allowing your grass to reach a certain height will lead to an unpleasant sojourn from the Grass Gestapo . I hump , because it happened to me a few days after I spot the Lawn Police measuring my neighbor ’s grass . We were the favorable receiver of a letter inform us that OUR grass was too tall and that if we did n’t address the “ infringement ” there would be issue .
So , we pout the grass and thought the issue was resolved .
A few weeks subsequently , we got another alphabetic character from the city . Apparently , we are now on some variety of lawn maintenance watch list .
Here is an excerpt from the second letter . I have added my own observations and commentary ( the parts in bold and Italic ):
An inspection of the above described property(so much for private place – pretty sure as shooting this is trespassing)was acquit and the following violation of the [ redact for secrecy ] municipal code was observed :
On 2025-02-22 you were sent a letter of the alphabet stating the travel along violation . Once again on 2025-03-25 I inspect your property and the grass and weeds were again exceeding the allowed 7 inches.(Again , this charwoman admits she take advantage on our property )
VIOLATION :
All premise and exterior holding shall be maintain free from weeds or industrial plant maturation in excess of 7 inch in height . All noxious Mary Jane shall be nix . Weeds shall be defined as all grasses , yearly plants , and vegetation , other than Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree or shrubs provided ; however , this full term shall not include cultivated flower and gardens.(Now every property “ owner ” is expect to be capable to identify noxious locoweed and other plants ? I ’m surprised the city has n’t hired botanists to come out to name each and every piece of vegetation on every yard and ticket us per plant . )
Any proprietor of factor having tutelage of a property who flush it to cut off and put down weeds after service of a notice violation , they shall be open to prosecution in conformity with ( code redacted ) and as prescribed by the confidence having legal power . Upon failure to abide by with the notice of violation , any duly authorize employee of the City or contractor hired by the City shall be authorized to inscribe upon the belongings that is in infringement and slue and destruct the weeds growing thereon , and the cost of such removal shall be paid by the proprietor or broker responsible for the property.(Translated : We will trespass on “ your ” property whenever we require , and there is nothing you could do about it . )
Also in accordance with state statute ( redacted for privateness ) , if weeds are allowed to grow on the same property in violation of ( codification redacted ) more than once during the same develop season , no extra notification is Department of Planning and Community Development required and the skunk will be cut by a contractor employed by the City with the cost thereof placed as an additional special revenue enhancement on the property if it is not paid within 30 day of receive invoice .
Additionally , if it is compulsive that compliance is not met , a citation may be issued in the ( redacted ) court which will require an appearance in Court and may include a mulct of up to $ 1000 per day(What the heck ? ) that the violation is permit to occur.(This is extortion . What if a holding owner is handicapped or injured and ca n’t afford to engage lawn inspection and repair ? What if they are in the infirmary ? What if they just happen to like tall grass ? )
The varsity letter included written matter of photos the Grass Police took of our yard .
A man may lose his home due to the height of his grass.
While some the great unwashed might think “ Well , just cut your weed regularly and the government will leave you alone , ” it is n’t always that mere .

I can not understand how hoi polloi can know under these status . City bureaucrat are some of the meanest and pettiest little morons you ’ll ever encounter , as I learned during my age in Smyrna , Tennessee .
They went after me in the spring for let the tulip and daffodils grow by the route in outflow instead of decapitating them down to approve lawn altitude . To the deuce with these busybody . A human beings has a right to his own land and gardens – and longsighted grass , if he like it .
