Yesterday afternoon we direct down the road to go pick pear from our neighbor ’s immense sand pear tree .
The Clarence Day have been hot and exceedingly humid , so we did n’t go on our excursion until around 6PM when the weather finally approximated the interior of a sauna instead of the inside of a vent .
The pear Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is loaded with fruit right now .

These are a hard cooking pear , or a “ sand pear , ” as the natives call them .
It ’s a good yield for making pies , jams , sauce , Oliver Hazard Perry , Moon or even salsa .
pear are best when they are n’t too ripe but are n’t overripe . Our favorite method to “ pick ” them is to just shake the arm .

My younger kids shook the low-toned branches .
And my eldest daughter go up about 20′ up into the tree and shook the upper branch .
With the help of the nipper , we fill our buckets in short order .

The pears are freehanded and sweet this year . I gave the tree a couple of gallons of Steve Solomon ’s micronutrient result earlier in the class and I think it helped .
Now we have to flake and core them , then I ’ll be make salsa . Rachel ’s also been roasting them and send away “ pear sauce , ” which is just applesauce made with pears .
Pear trees are very wanton to grow in the south if you plant sand pear varieties . They ’re endearing trees and quite fat , year after year . This tree was originally planted in 1979 – the same year I was born – and has been producing fruit for decade .

When we first engender here last year , the neighbors lease us pick the tail end of the pears that had fallen after the hurricane . This year we get to pick our way through the integral time of year .
think we ’d better get back to peeling !
mark : The images in this postal service were deal with a Takumar Bayonet lens , 1:2.8 , 135 mm , in the beginning made for a Pentax camera . mammy send me this lens along with her old Pentax K-1000 originally this calendar month . The lense had some fungus in the front ingredient which I cleaned out yesterday afternoon . Then I added an inexpensive adapter to the back of the lens so I could adjust it to my Canon 80D and take it shooting . The pears were its first test . certain reckon good for a 1980s lens ! give thanks you , Mom .
