The prolific spider plant
I can admit when I ’ve made a mistake . It all started a few twelvemonth ago when a friend gave me two babies from her spider plant life . I was just entering my unhinged - house - plant - madam epoch , and I did n’t have any spider plants … yet .
Be careful , she warned . Before you have it off it , you ’ll have too many wanderer flora to count .
I guffaw . you may never have too many plant , I thought to myself . First misapprehension . It turns out you’re able to , in fact , have too many spider industrial plant . In barely any time , those two spider plants grow into elephantine , intelligent adult wanderer flora . Then , after holiday outdoors for the summertime , they sprouted no less than twenty NEW wanderer babe . It ’s okay , I told myself . I ’ll give most away and only propagate a few more for myself . I ’ve got this under command . Second mistake . I did not have this under restraint .
Before I knew it , those plants spilled over their pots and create even more outgrowth . The first suggestion of doubt that perhaps I had overdone it start to crawl into my mind . I quickly shook it off , buy some hang planter , and string up one in each of my kidskin ’ room . Everyone in the family merit some greenery , I reason out . And they are splendid air purifier . Maybe it would sublimate the dirty drogue odour that emanated from my son ’s way during cross - country and soccer seasons .
As those plants arise and my kids began complaining about a possible plant life takeover , I tried not to panic . possibly a social medium SOS would help oneself . Spider plants for loose ! derive and get your spider plant ! Third error . My brilliant friends recognize better , so they would n’t take them all .
Now , I did n’t have to propagate . I could have snipped those babies and tossed them in the compost . I could have ignored them and pretended I did n’t see all the new works possibilities . But … Hi . My name is Jamie , and I ’m addicted to propagating spider plants .
My local depository library figure out the problem for me ! They created aplant multiplication stationwhere patron from all over the community could trade and swap all their extra houseplants . What a playfulness , light agency to share the love of planetary house plants with your neighbor and get rid of the wanderer babe that have take over your plate !
It turns out I am not the only mortal whose spider plant obsession make a fiddling out of ascendence . When I omit mine off , were there mostly spider plants in the library generation station ? The answer is yes . Did I treble the amount at the propagation place with my share ? Also , yes . But now my wanderer industrial plant to non - spider plant proportion is back in a healthier equilibrium , and I ’m committed to keep it that way . Hopefully . Maybe . One day at a meter .
Even before the propagation station was add , the public library was one of Jamie ’s favorite spot to hang out . you may find Jamie there at least once a calendar week , picking up a stack of new books , dropping off an overdue book she was run to stop , or scanning the shelves for something she has n’t scan yet .
