Tree Removal . I have been preparing for next year ’s improved landscape by having George , the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree operating surgeon here to remove a line of ancient and massive laurel and hollies . He is coming back soon to get rid of the stumps and this hazel which whole get the better of him last sentence he came . It is obviously very , very old and good knows what we will find out at the centre of it , possibly a lost refinement .

Bamboos .
Autumn is a good sentence to thin the bamboo stands . It ’s a tedious job , but they look secure for it . The upside is we have load of bamboo cane which will get along in handy next year .

Vegetable Boxes . At last I have cleared the vegetable boxes ready for their cover of manure which comes good manners of my friend , Francesca ’s beloved Pickle . I just have to persuade the Pianist to collect it for me . I think this is a puritanic job although the Pianist is a Feminist and refuses to notice that there are such thing as dingy and pink jobs . Still I might be capable to bribe him with mince pies . In the essence is a received gooseberry with a frill of Chamaemelum nobilis rounds its foot . You might notice that Chloris , the scarecrow is no longer with us . Here she is a couple of days ago ; even with the blonde wig and a overindulge bra , she still looks terrible . She had to go , she was an embarrassment . She count so disreputable that I was ashamed of her and put her on the bonfire . It was like having a picture of Dorian Grey in the garden which was devolve even quicker than yourself .
wrap up for Winter . I have the ghostly word form all over the garden of supply ship plants wrapped in a fleece overcoat . Here are my tree fern . They have a scarf joint of straw and I hope they will be happy .

Bringing things in for WinterThe most tedious caper of prepare for winter is bringing all my tender plants in . No mean feat now I have a tropical area full of tender works . My lovely greenhouse which I acquired last year to exhibit plants in winter is now totally stuffed .
windowpane sills and spare bedrooms are fully occupied with plants . The dining room looks like a woodland . But what can you do ? A miss needs her plants .
And that ’s my six , but I have n’t cite bulb planting . Another tedious chore and I still have a box full of tulip waiting . But if I get going on all the autumn jobs still to be done , I ’ll on end up with 36 on Saturday , and that ’s breaking the rule so we ’ll leave it there .

I ’m a little sad to see Scarecrow Chloris go , even if her visual aspect had become disreputable , but at least she cash in one’s chips in style ! Your fall colour puts ours to pity – my own Cotinus has for the most part failed to deliver as the purple leave of absence tend to go directly to embrown . Your hazel is more than a trivial scary ( making me retrieve of the Yucca elephantipes we took out years ago , at a cost that still build me blink ) . On the other hand , your stuffed - to - the - branchia greenhouse is lovely .
“ It was like having a movie of Dorian Grey in the garden which was deteriorating even quicker than yourself . ” This was just hysteric , Chloris !
Congratulations on the new greenhouse . When I see your “ tropic garden ” in an earlier post , I began to wonder . It must be so cheering to be able to pucker them all away safe from Winter .
