A flowery paradise
Today we ’re in Hopewell , New Jersey , visit with Courtney and Denys Turner .
We have worked very intemperately to create stout but beautiful repeated borders in our back and front gardens , à la Piet Oudolf — the realistic fashion or “ new recurrent movement . ”
The back border is against a fencing and gets a plenty of Lord’s Day most of the day . The soil is dry and sandy on the mound and heavy clay everywhere else .

Lots of perennial , many of them aboriginal , create an loose , realistic look .
fateful - eyed Susans(Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 5–9 ) and a purple aster ( Symphyotrichumspecies )
Neatly edged pasture paths provide a respectable contrast to the informal planting in the bed .

coneflower ( Echinaceahybrids , Zones 5–9 ) take halfway stage with their undimmed pink prime .
Ornamental grass are central to the Modern recurrent cause , provide a unifying texture to the designing .
All of these coneflowers andRudbeckiaare beautiful and very popular with pollinators . Along the fence are sunflowers ( Helianthusannuus , yearly ) , which will ply a snack for the local birds once their seed have matured .
