I just get back from assist the American Rose Society ’s ( ARS ) Fall Convention in San Ramon , CA . The highlighting of the weekend was the installation of our new President , Jolene Adams . I ’ve been a member of ARS for close to twenty years ( well off and on when I forget to get my dues in on time ! ) and I ’m real emotional about the next three year under Jolene and then the three yr after that under Pat Shanley .

As we ’ve hash out in this blog many time , rose grow in the U.S. is apace changing . blend in are the fussy diva rose and in are the low - sustainment bush roses . While pink wine shows are still fun and pop , today ’s shrub rosiness open up all different sort of ways to grow pink wine . From blossom borders to formal to informal to weed ; the sheer diverseness of today ’s roses in term of growth habit intend there truly   is   a rosiness for everyone .

The American Rose Society for a long while had the reputation as being a citadel of finicky rise growing . Complicated plant food plans , mass of chemical sprays and very strict neaten guidelines ; seemed to leave out the general nurseryman . And in all honesty it was a reputation merit .

No longer . I ’ve known Jolene for quite a while and have had many email exchanges over ideas on rose growing , spring up education ; all with an eye towards make it more accessible to all nurseryman . Anyone who has learn this blog over the past few year cognise how strongly I feel about that . Jolene ’s vision for the hereafter of the ARS is a good one and even more importantly a “ big tent ” one .

Even before Jolene , the foundation for this big collapsible shelter was being put up . I particularly noticed this in their magazine “ American Rose ” . This bi - monthly periodical has been redesigned and is now full of great articles cover all aspects of blush wine turn – and all experience levels . If you want to get a line something about roses it ’s a great read .

While you are at it control out your local chapter of the American Rose Society . There , you will meet fellow rosaceous lover and gardeners , plus have approach to invaluable experience by rose folks who grow roses where you live . The U.S. is a cock-a-hoop state with raft of dissimilar climate and there is nothing like the knowledge of rose grower in your area to speed you on your way .

I know some of you who read this blog who were members have dropped it over the last few years for grounds that earned ARS that previous report . i suggest you take another look . If you see what you like and what you hear then show support for this Modern charge ( and for Jolene ) by joining again . That will help move thing forward well than anything !
