Step one—Cut the PVC

ignore the PVC pipe with a hacksaw into 4 sections each 1 1⁄8 - in . long . you may make them longer if you require to keep thetrellisfurther away from the paries , but you ’ll take longer screws . Now ’s a good fourth dimension to paint the PVC pieces to match the wall or the treillage , if you want .

Step two—Locate the wall studs

sequester your trellis to studs will make it more secure . apply a scantling spotter , available from family improvement stores , to notice and mark the locations on the wall with a pencil . Line the edges of the treillage up with these marks as best as you could . Then mark roll in the hay locations on both the wall and trellis . They may go through the side or through the top and bottom edges of the frame — it all depends on where the studs are in the wall . Be sure to check that your treillage is level as you punctuate the office where you ’re going to put the nookie .

Step three—Predrill the holes

Take the treillage down and predrill all the holes . Then , while holding the trellis in position on the bulwark , predrill the holes through the trellis into the rampart . Start with one of the upper corners first . Put the screw in and tighten it part way . Then have the trellis up to the pencil marks , verify it ’s level and predrill the hole in the opposite corner . Drive that screwing in part way , too . Now you may predrill the holes for the rest of the trellis , but do n’t put the screws in yet .

Step four—Add PVC spacers

Back the top two screw out and insert a piece of PVC piping between the treillage and the wall . Then put the screws back in through the trellis and the spacer into the wall , but do n’t reduce them completely yet . Repeat this for all the other holes and then tighten all of the screws .

Now your trellis is firmly attached to the wall and there is enough space for vine to enfold around the wood .

Hinge Method

If you wish to take your trellis down from the paries for cleaning at the end of each season , this attachment method acting will make it flying and easy . It also allows you to paint the paries behind the treillage without taking it down completely . The build stays bond at the bottom and fold up down off from the wall . It ’s fasten with two 1 1/2 - in . hook and eye at the top .

Step one—Attach the ledger board

The 1×2 cedar board is your ledger board , or the static piece where the treillage is attached . It should be as blanket as the trellis . To bind it to the paries find the macho-man where you want the treillage to give ear and mark their location . Center the ledger board over the positioning of the studs and verify it ’s degree . Use the pencil to mark the ledger board ’s position on the paries and the locations of the rivet on the ledger board . Take the board down and predrill the scrape you just made indicating the locating of the studs — this preclude the wood from splitting . Now you’re able to bond the leger display panel to the paries with the 3 1⁄2 - in.-long shag .

Step two—Attach the hinges

Fasten two 2 - in . leafage hinges to the ledger board about 1 in . in from each close .

lie the treillage face down in front of the wall , supporting it on blocks . Now secure the other one-half of the hinge to the back of the trellis framing .

Once the bottom of the treillage is secure , you ’re quick to fasten the top to the wall . swing out the trellis up into attitude . On the wall , mark the top outside edges of the trellis and then lay it back down .

Screw your 2d book of account board to the wall just as you did the bottom . check that it ’s level and a brace of inches below the top edge , so it ’s hidden behind the trellis frame .

Step three—Install the hook and eyes

Put the trellis up again and screw one of the hook into each side of the trellis frame . Screw an optic into each end of the 1×2 for the sweetener to tighten into .

Hook the treillage in place and you ’re set to establish . When you need to clean off the trellis , or paint the wall behind , just unhook the two top hooking and lie in the trellis down .
