One of my original pieces of garden art : Half - Assed Patio Furniture
It ’s pour rain this morning , so I ’m just going to be slumming here in the office . I have an flat nearour homethat I utilize as an office and workshop , and I have two little garden there . The rear garden , which has floor - to - ceiling window doors looking out on it , is a passably charming little messiness of green leaf and comfortable shade , and it brag two peices of garden carving .

The carving pictured above is the musical composition entitle “ Half - Assed Patio Furniture . ” When I lived in the States , I often build up Adirondack chair , and I even had a little business work up these well-situated monster for awhile . For this prowess piece I built two halves of an Adirondack and fasten them together backward . It ’s a man with graceful curve , and the beloved varnish on the wood acts as a brightening lamp among all the louche greens . The seat are too scraggy and unsupported to be able to use as a sit down shoes . My wife is not particularly impressed with this art and would rather I had just made a usable hot seat . Ha !

The sculpture pictured right is “ RapMaster Pinocchio . ” He ’s made out of welded sheet metal and cover with concrete and boat pigment . A few old age ago , some friend and I took him out on a gravy boat and dropped it to the bottom of the bay . Then two scuba divers went down and took movies of him standing there . These 24-hour interval , he ’s enjoying a arrest in the garden , waiting for an chance to pass over from an airplane or broil in a bonfire .
I ’m a big fan of homemade garden art , and I really enjoy pee it myself . I think the cay is that it is not just presentation but personal expression . buy statue from the garden pith is swell , and I ’m all for it , but making one ’s own nontextual matter is another thing . gardener oft retrace whimsical arrangement that they display in their gardens , and I ’m screwball for those , because they ’re personal . A statue from the garden center is less personal .
All garden are themselves nontextual matter , and even vegetable gardens are delightfully personal while of art and construction . When I face at other people ’s vegetable garden , I enjoy thinking about their thought physical process as they build their gardens . Why did they build it in this elbow room , and why did they decide to put that other part over there ? The whole affair seems , to me , to be a personal expression . Even folks that only have a little patch or maybe even only asmall apartment terracemanage to project a whole mass of their own personality in their garden . I do n’t think we grow garden just to eat the vegetables or cut the flowers for our vases . I think we garden because it is a enjoyable method of self expression .

I like August rainstorm . The garden is so big and straggling and needs so much metre just to water it these days that a rainy day is like a holiday . Ahhh !
