This shed belong to to some ally . They just bought a house not too far from us , and had a deplorable small building in the backyard that needed some love :
A month or so ago they asked if I want to demolish it and take the wood for a chicken coop . I said “ certain , ” then survive over to take a face . After some reexamination , I agnise it was saveable .
The roof was smashed in some time before they bribe it , and the rafters had molder out and body of water had soak the Interior Department . Yet it was on a slab , and was a generous 12′ x 16′ building . Maybe it was worth save , I thought .
I had my crowbar in hand as I surveil it , then turned to the wife and said ,
“ You know … this really just needs a new cap . Building an outbuilding like this might cost $ 6,000 in baseball bat and materials decently now … ”
She enounce , “ Do you know how to put on a roof ? ”
“ Yes , kind of . I know how we did it in Grenada . I could do it . ”
So I commence working on it . First I hunted down fresh roofing panels , wood and screws . Then I commence tearing off the honest-to-god cap .
As I did , I pick up the rot had also distribute into the bottom of multiple 2 x 4s in the frame , so I start supplant and splicing those together . install a roof on bad walls is a poor thought .
After a day of cut out and replacing rotten composition in the walls with help from some of my younger kids and CJ , Daisy and I put up new rafters and purloins , then put on brand - new 14′ metal roofing panels .
Now it appear like a Caribbean beach shack . Just need to paint it pink and turquoise !
rainwater is gestate on Sunday , so we wanted to get it breed as fast as possible . We also require to be destitute tomorrow so we can sour on yard and garden projects on my own homestead .

The project is n’t really done yet , as the interior need some more work . There ’s a rotten ledge in there that need to be rebuilt with young plywood , plus I require to bring more anchorperson prison guard to the walls and rafter .

Over time , leaf and debris and soil build up around the edges of the shed , causing some of the down wood to waste out . With a bit more piece of work , we can fix that too . Then we just ask to repaint it and patch up the gaps to keep out critters .
by the way , this task is why I have n’t finish another telecasting late . We have one half - filmed , but it ask to wait until the shed cap was on . Maybe we ’ll get to it tomorrow .
It was fun doing some carpentry again . It reminded me of building our little cabin in the Torrid Zone . Tomorrow we ’ll get some of our own work done .
