For those of us close to a garden , or for those of us who were conjure up in a garden with siblings , or parent and grandparents- we often associate memories with sure plant . I think we often underestimate the nostalgia panorama that plants put up us . Sure sure-enough tree and scented bush can live forever , not unlike an onetime firearm of treasured furniture , but even the scent or appearance of a flowering industrial plant in the garden can be like aliveness chronicle .
I often guess that an sometime ascend or flowering plant life like a sweet-scented violet mimics exactly the incisively same scent that perhaps Lincoln or Josephine experienced . Plants extend us each season with a fresh re - novel . I am certain that while in China visiting the home of Joseph Rock or following in the footsteps of Frank Kingdon Ward that I will see many of the plants that these and other well - known plant explorers found which now adorn our own gardens .
A Davidia involucrata bloomed this year in our garden ( it ’s third bloom in 30 years ) , and I suppose that I will see it too in efflorescence in China . Not often experience in most garden as it is one of those tree more probably find at a specialist baby’s room and not at a large box store , the Davidia , or Fabled Dove Tree had heavy , white bracts or leaf - like structure surrounding their blossoms which hang down not unlike handkerchiefs ( or , to be more relevant- not unlike dryer sheets . but ‘ The Fabled Dryer Sheet Tree ’ just does n’t have the same ‘ anchor ring ’ .
Lilacs , bleed hearts , bantam livid bunches of Indian Pipes in the woods , peonies which she would make bath fossil oil from , and so many herbaceous plant . I am realizing that so many plants like rhubarb remind me of her that it will be unmanageable to leave the association , but that ’s fine of course . Memories are right thing .
Well , common people , this will probably be my last station until I attain China . A few days in Beijing next week , and then off to Yunnan . Hopefully my VPN will work and I will be able to send live from there , if not , then I will recap once I recall .
