A Colorado garden is full of fabulous blooms as it transitions from early to late spring

Today we ’re heading west and getting an update from Cathy Hollis in Colorado . We were first introduced to her garden , inspired by English borders , in 2022 ( you could check out that entry here : Cathy ’s Colorado Garden ) . But Cathy ’s real garden inspiration is her sister Sally Barker , who has been featured on GPOD many times over the years ( you could check out the latest C. W. Post from Sally ’s garden here : More in Sally ’s Maryland Garden ) . We ’re thrilled to be a minor part of this family ’s share love of flora !

Hi ! I be in the suburbs south of Denver , Colorado . I have been delight the transition from early leap to recent spring in my garden this year . We have a lot of peony bushes , and a bee hive as well .

One of the earliest perennials to bloom in our garden is cushion spurge(Euphorbiapolychroma , district 4–8)(yellow plant ) , which can be invading , but it does furnish early nectar for the bees , and adds color to the leap garden . Our Prairifire crab apple tree ( Malus x ‘ Prarifire ’ , Zones 4–8 ) is always a standout .

Design Impression tulips(Tulipa‘Design Impression ’ , Zones 3–8)are hardy and long permanent . In desktop is a Chanticleer pear(PyruscalleryanaChanticleer ® , Zones 3–8)and the crabapple tree .

A show of former bloom tulip – Big Smile(yellow),Menton(pink ) , and Blushing Lady(pale white-livered with wakeful pink ) .

In our backyard , theEuphorbia polychromareally give the garden an former show . Behind it , the blue efflorescence of Jack Frost brunnera(Brunneramacrophylla‘Jack Frost ‘ , Zones 3–8)and Purple Sensation allium(Allium‘Purple Sensation ’ , Zones 3–8)add contrast . The pine Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is Sherwood Compact Pine(Pinusmugo‘Sherwood Compact ’ , Zones 2–7 ) , a dwarf slow grow evergreen . The birds love to drink and tub in the big sway jet . you’re able to glimpse the front range of the Rocky Mountains in the background , as well as our hive .

This pinkish peony is the earlier to flower in our garden , I wish I knew its name !

A niggling later on in spring , the tulip have pass and the Julia Rose Itoh peony(Paeoniax ‘ Julia Rose ’ , geographical zone 3–8)and regal bewhiskered iris take over in our front garden .

In the back garden , other herbaceous peonies and variegated purple iris(Iris pallida‘Variegata ’ , Zones 4–9)start to bloom , along with the magnanimous flowers of ‘ Pinball Wizard ’ allium(Allium‘Pinball Wizard ’ , Zones 4–8 ) .

Bartzella Itoh peonies(Paeoniax ‘ Bartzella ’ , Zones 4–9)in another part of the garden .

Around June 1st , our Morden Centennial rise bushes(Rosa‘Morden Centennial ’ , Zones 4–9)start to bloom , and stay on through the summer . On the right side of the walk , box , ‘ glare ’ spirea(Spiraeajaponica‘Limelight ’ , Zones 3–9)and Firewitch dianthus(Dianthusgratianopolitanus‘Firewitch ’ , Zones 3–9)provide a demarcation .

At about the same time , the Moonshine yarrow(Achilleax ‘ Moonshine ’ , Zones 3–8 ) , Walker ’s Low catmint(Nepetaxfaassenii‘Walker ’s Low ’ , Zones 4–9 ) , and May Night salvia(Salviaxsylvestris‘May Night ’ , Zones 4–9)burst into blush . The Temple of Bloom ® Seven - Son tree ( Heptacodium miconioides , Zones 5–9 ) supply 4 season of people of color and is a wonderful accent Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree with white barque . The bees love when it blossom in August .
