Do we control plants , or have they been shaping us ? This is the challenging question Michael Pollan amaze inBotany of Desire , airing on PBS on October 28 . The documentary , base on Pollan ’s account book of the same name , explores the complex , symbiotic relationship between plants and humans .
According to Pollan , plants dissemble as mirrors of humans , reflecting what we want . He focuses on four metal money – orchard apple tree , tulips , cannabis , and potatoes – and examines how they have adapted and changed over time found on our desire for sweetness , peach , intoxication , and control over our surroundings .
The documentary canvass the political , social , and cultural implication of allowing our desires to dictate our farming strategy , particularly the decision to farm in monoculture .

Pollan states that mankind upchuck “ evolutionary votes ” every day when we choose , for example , the flowers we exhibit , the foods we eat , and the drugs we take in . ignore this influence could have a profound upshot not only on various plant species but also on our own species .
