Dear Readers ,

I ’ve talked a piffling about garden by the moon and I wanted to detail what I will be doing in my half of the garden .

Using the lunar cycles to sow seeds and harvest by is n’t New Age growing methods thought up by hippies .   Farmers in Europe have been using lunar cps in the annual granger ’ farmer’s calendar for years .   Typically , there are    three methods for planting by the moon ; the sidereal method , synodic also known as waxing and wane cycle and the biodynamic round .

In a nutshell , biodynamic ontogeny is a sustainable method acting of raise organically .   It uses manure and composts and does not apply artificial chemicals for dressing or pest command on soil or plant .   It is often check as a local unified system from how the farm animal on the land are fed , the crops cultivated and the soil health and fecundity .   Local and heirloom varieties of plant life are often grown in accordance to a humour calendar utilise the zodiac .

Use of herbal and mineral spray for stain and compost preparations are used to enhance soil fertility and maintain plant wellness .   Preparations are seen as strength in harmony with the cosmos not as mere meat to straw on the ground .   However , some of these provision come with a   fairly controversial readying method to tackle cosmic forces to enhance development , and are not to everybody ’s cupful of tea or ethos .   The system uses cow cornet and quartz for example , which poses some ethical sourcing and extracting questions .

The original method   was developed by Rudolph Steiner in 1924 and now Farmer and nurseryman from Germany to Australia , North America to India use these constitutive growing proficiency .

For the purposes of my biodynamic garden experimentation , I will only be using the planting timing ( fruit , blossom , root or leaf day ) indicated by the North American Biodynamic Calendar 2015 by Matthias Thun , the compost and soil preparation I buy from theJosephine Porter Institute   for Applied Biodynamics .

The ground I will be working on is a elevate bed which will be constructed from redwood by the JimJim   and position on top of the lawn ( much to his annoyance ) .   Using my usual proficiency of making raised seam I will be covering the grass with composition board then with homemade compost and manure from a local Equus caballus which has been composting for 3 days ( thanks to the American again for own buddies with a pony ) .   one-half of this bed will be maintain biodynamically , the other half will be constitutive , no - dig .

I will be updating with tone by step layer construction and whole step by step usage of the biodynamic preparations throughout the growing season as well as craw yield and contour , and occurrence of pests versus the organic no - dig and conventional gardening performed by JimJim .
