The specific epithet " gorgoneum(pronounced gor - GOH - nee - um ) " means " likeGorgon " and in all probability refers to the branches with rosette at the closing , resemble the creature in Grecian mythology with whisker made of living , venomous snakes .

Aeonium gorgoneumis a succulentshrubthat forms rosette of spoon - shaped parting at the end of ascending branches . It can grow up to 6.6 feet ( 2 m ) improbable .
