When the words “ bungalow garden ” come to mind , this is the kind of planting I see . This is a mixture of yellow and orange cosmos , carmine and pinkish zinnias , and purple tall vervain ( Verbena bonariensis ) designed by Liz Niebling for her garden in Exeter , New Hampshire . Liz planted the cosmos as just a yellow variety years ago , and collect its seeds each year . Every bounce she ’s surprised to see the orangish flowers meld in , too . We bed this happy jumble of flora . Mick the pot seems to , too .
