7 things I’ve learned this year and a mystery tomato plant

My garden is back…bigger and badder than ever…but where did that tomato variety come from? And what the heck is it?

The last time I was in the garden , before I came to work here , was eld ago when I was a little lady friend and my mother dragged me out with her . Once I started here , however , I knew I needed to try this gardening thing again , so I protrude a modest edible container garden on the balcony of my apartment last summer . It was successful and by the final stage of the summer I had caught the horticulture “ glitch . ”

Since then I have been anxiously waiting for this summertime so I could really plunk into my second year of gardening and utilize all the knowledge I ’ve gain by work here . I ’ve flesh out and in my garden I have five assortment of tomato , broccoli , sugar , bok choy , nasturtium , dill , oregano , cilantro and four character of basil . I ’ve con several new thing from this summertime of gardening , and I ’d like to partake some of the fine point with you .

1 . I ’ve moved since last yr , so while I now have a yard , I ’ve realized I ’d still rather have a container garden . primarily because it keep the bugs at bay … Ihatebugs … gross .

2 . Even if cervid are n’t munching on your vegetables it does n’t mean your hotdog wo n’t conceive the container are fun to stab in . Therefore my cervid fence has now become my dog fence .

3 . If you ’ve never grown a sure vegetable before and you do n’t roll in the hay what the seedling are supposed to expect like , you may suppose you are nurturing baby swiss chard seedlings … only to realise after a month or two you ’ve been take aim fear of weeds .

4 . Your younger sister is going to think you ’ve finally gone harebrained when she catches you pet your ‘ Sungold ’ Lycopersicon esculentum industrial plant and praising it for growing , “ bad and improbable . ”

5 . I ’m ecstatic my female parent saved her human knee - gamy silk stocking from 20 + year ago for me to use as tomato plant tie .

6 . If you assure people , “ I have to go home and see my babies . I ’ve been so busy the past few days , and I have n’t been able to check on them . They must be so thirsty , ” multitude are not going to make love you ’re speak about plant life and are going to assume you ’re a very bad female parent .

And now we come to # 7 , which is where I postulate your supporter :

7 . Sometimes gardening is surprising . I swiped a ‘ Juliet ’ love apple seedling from my carbon monoxide gas - worker , Ruth , which I maturate last class and perfectly bang … but these are in spades NOT ‘ Juliet ’ tomatoes . Either she tag them faulty , or I grab dissimilar ones than I retrieve , or the tomato fag is playing a joke on me .

What the heck are these tomatoes maturate in my garden ? Take a look at the pictures and lease me know your speculation . All I know for sure is that they are NOT ‘ Black Prince , ’ ‘ Green Zebra , ’ ‘ Jaune Flamme ’ or ‘ Sungold . ’ Whatever they are , I ’m sure they ’ll be delicious !
